Undergraduate ProgramDuring past biennial meetings the student workshop has been a single meeting that tried to meet the needs of both graduate and undergraduate students. This year, we have decided that the needs of all students could be better met by organizing a separate event for undergraduates. The focus of this will be the implementation of a Mentor Program that we hope will provide helpful insight for the large number of undergraduates that attend the conference. Provided here is an outline of the proposed Mentor Program and Undergraduate Luncheon. General PremiseThe proposed undergraduate program is a conference-long, graduate-student led mentorship program between interested undergrads/post-undergrads and willing graduate students. The idea is to solicit, well in advance of the conference, graduate students who would be interested in serving as mentors. Participating graduate students would need to commit to attending the proposed introductory mentorship event at the conference (a luncheon - described below) and making themselves available to undergrads seeking advice or guidance about talking to potential advisors, choosing a graduate school, etc. throughout the conference. The mentorship program would essentially establish a user-friendly resource for the undergrads, but would leave how and to what depth the resource is tapped up to the undergrads.
