Restoration of Fish Communities and Habitats in River Ecosystems
FISH 428 (5 credits),
Spring Quarters, Odd Years
This course is for undergraduates, graduate students, professionals and anyone else concerned about restoring damaged aquatic ecosystems. The class focuses on the restoration of fish communities and habitats within rivers and streams. The goal is to encourage recovery through natural developmental processes that enhance the (a) complexity of habitats; and (b) connectivity between habitats in the river basin. Class discussion and participation on field trips will focus on current restoration concepts for ecosystems, designs of projects, and case studies. Evening sessions include lectures and class discussions. Four Saturday field trips.
