Applying for a TAships at the UW
Departments on campus handle the hiring of Teaching Assistants in different ways. Please see below for information about hiring by our department as well as contact information for TA-ships in other departments.
School of Aquatic & Fishery Sciences
SAFS has a number of TA-ships open every year. The majority of the TA-ships are filled through commitments made as part of graduate admissions or through funding agreements between graduate students and their major professors. These TA-ships are not posted.
There are usually 6-9 TA-ships a year that are advertised positions, open to any qualified graduate student wanting to apply. These positions are sent out over email lists and include duties and responsibilities specific to the individual TA-ship and course. The extent of the advertising is primarily determined by the course content. Most times these positions are sent out to SAFS graduate students as well as related departments which might have qualified students (Oceanography, School of Marine Affairs, Biology, Forestry, etc.) Students interested in these TA-ships will need to email in a separate application packet for each course for which they’re applying to be a teaching assistant. We do not keep a central file of resumes of potential TAs.
Other Departments
Here is some basic contact information about TA-ships in select other departments:
Biology
Biology does keep a central file of potential TA resumes and matches potential TAs to courses once/quarter. Their application and job descriptions are at http://protist.biology.washington.edu/bio2/descriptions/.
